KINGWOOD, Texas – An oil spill was reported Wednesday in the San Jacinto River in Kingwood.
The incident was reported about 8:20 a.m. in the west fork river near Aqua Vista and Timberline drives.
According to the U.S. Coast Guard, the agency was informed of the spill about 10 a.m.
Video from Sky 2 showed emergency crews in a boat attempting to place floating barriers in the river.
Houston firefighters said a landscaping crew hit a 2-inch pipe, causing oil to spill into the river. The spill caused a 200-foot sheen on the water.
Officials said the owner of the pipe is using a private company to cleanup the spill.
