Celebration set for Spring woman's 108th birthday

HOUSTON – A birthday party for Margaret Ryan was planned at The Village at Gleannloch Farms in Spring at 2 p.m. Tuesday.

She will turn 108 years old.

Ryan's life achievements are extensive.

She has two daughters, eight grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren.

Last year, she received the Women in American History Award from the Heritage Trails Chapter (in Spring) of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Ryan taught at Bacone College, a Native American school in Muskogee, Oklahoma, in the late 1920s and early 1930s.

She rode horseback with an interpreter to outlying areas to interview Native American tribes, according to the birthday party invitation.

She also organized the first Native American Girl Scout troop in Muskogee.

Those who want to attend the celebration were asked to go to the health care entrance at the site.
