Man shot during robbery in SW Houston, police say

HOUSTON – A man was shot Wednesday during a robbery at an apartment complex in southwest Houston, police said.

Officials said the man was shot at 7:05 the parking lot of an apartment complex near Briarwest Boulevard and Westheimer Road.

The victim told police that he was sitting in his car when a man ordered him to stay in his vehicle, but the victim got out of the vehicle and tried to run away.

The victim said he tripped and fell while trying to get away, and the man jumped on him.

According to police, the victim and the man fought on the ground before the assailant pulled out a gun and shot the victim.

Officials said the bullet grazed the victim's head and the man got away with the victim's phone and wallet.

A witness said the victim was conscious and alert after the shooting.

"They were saying, 'Call the cops, he ran that way.' So I started walking towards that way, didn't see anybody, and then I come back and see that guy who was laying down bleeding," Israel Hernandez said.

According to police, the shooter was seen running south on Briarwest. The victim was taken to Ben Taub Hospital. His condition is unknown.
