VIDEO: Surveillance shows security guard wrestle, fight would-be robber at Valero in NE Houston

HOUSTON – A man is on the run after he was shot by a security guard while trying to rob a Valero gas station in northeast Houston, police said.

The man, who was robbing the store in the 8000 block of Lockwood just before 2 a.m., tried to take a gun from the guard, police said. Surveillance video shows the two wrestling and fighting. The guard was able to push the man outside.

A clerk, Arshad Ali, who was in the store at the time, said he hit the man several times with a high-reach hanger and the man ran off.

The security guard fired his gun and shot the man in the leg, investigators said.

The injured man ran into the woods got away, police said.

Officers searched for the man but did not find him. 

It is unclear if he took anything from the store.

Police are asking hospitals to be on the lookout for gunshot victims.
