Teen charged in sex assault of 4-year-old neighbor

Police: Victim, suspect are neighbors

HOUSTON – A teenage boy has been charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child.  According to police, the victim is his 4-year-old neighbor.

People who live in the Northeast Houston neighborhood off Lockwood Drive told KPRC Local 2 that a group of kids were playing hide and seek and that's when they said the assault happened.

"He tricked the other little kids who were playing hide and seek," said one neighbor who didn't reveal her name. "It's my time to find y'all, so they could run and hide away from them."

Another neighbor said someone came outside and saw the assault taking place behind a home.

"A lady caught them.  By the grace of God, she looked out her window and she ran around here and grabbed the little girl," said the neighbor, whose first name is Francine.

Neighbors called the Houston Police Department, which investigated the alleged incident.

Paramedics wrapped the 4-year-old in a blanket and put her in the back of an ambulance.  She was taken to Texas Children's Hospital to be evaluated.

The suspect, who neighbors said is either 14 or 15 years old, was put in the back of a patrol car and taken downtown for questioning.

"We have to do our interviews and see what we can get," said Sgt. Thomas Simmons with HPD.

About four hours later, Simmons said the teen was charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child.

Simmons also said that it's unclear exactly what will happen to the teen.  He will likely be processed and then the juvenile justice system will take over the case.
