Millions of families may be eligible for a free $1,000 gift from the federal government to help their children start saving for the future.

The U.S. Department of the Treasury has launched the Trump Accounts app, marking a major step forward in what officials are calling one of the most significant financial programs for American families in decades.

The app is now available on all major mobile app stores, including the Apple App Store and Google Play, and will serve as the primary way families manage their children’s Trump Accounts.

“The Trump Administration is taking another step forward in expanding opportunity for American families. The Trump Accounts app delivers a simple, secure way for households to begin engaging with a program designed to build long-term financial strength from day one,” Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said.

“By putting easy access to Trump Accounts directly in the hands of parents and young Americans, we are helping to ensure that America’s youth are included in this new era of economic participation,” Bessent said.

What to expect if you’ve already signed up

Parents and legal guardians who have already submitted IRS Form 4547 to enroll their children should begin watching their inboxes. As of May 28, families will start receiving emails with instructions to complete the account setup process.

Treasury says activation emails will be sent in phases between now and the program’s official launch on July 4, 2026.

Here’s what enrolled families can expect:

  • Activation email: Look for an email confirming your child’s Trump Account election was processed, along with prompts to complete account activation.
  • Official email address: During the initial rollout, activation emails will come only from no-reply@TrumpAccounts.Treasury.gov.
  • How to activate: Follow the instructions in the email and complete activation through the Trump Accounts app or by visiting TrumpAccounts.gov.
  • Contributions begin July 4: Starting July 4, 2026, the account will be able to accept contributions from parents, family members, employers and other eligible contributors, subject to annual limits.
  • $1,000 pilot deposit: Also beginning July 4, 2026, eligible children will receive a $1,000 pilot program contribution deposited directly into their Trump Account by the U.S. Department of the Treasury.

Beware of scams

As account activation gets underway, Treasury is urging families to stay alert. We’ve seen this before - scammers often use these types of things to target people.

Here’s how to protect yourself:

  • Email only: Legitimate Trump Account activation communications will come only by email from no-reply@TrumpAccounts.Treasury.gov.
  • No calls or texts: Treasury will not contact families by phone or text message about Trump Account activation. If you receive a call or text, do not respond — it is likely a scam.
  • Use official channels only: Always access your child’s account through the official Trump Accounts app or by typing TrumpAccounts.gov directly into your browser. Do not use phone numbers found through internet search results.
  • Customer support: Support is available only through secure, in-app or online callback requests.

When in doubt, visit TrumpAccounts.gov for the latest information.

Haven’t signed up yet? Here’s how

It’s not too late to enroll. Parents, guardians and other authorized individuals can open an account at any time by submitting IRS Form 4547, Trump Account Election(s), which also includes enrollment in the pilot program.

An account can be opened for any eligible child at any time during the year before the child turns 18. There is no cost to open an account.

Employers, charitable organizations and governments can also contribute to Trump Accounts — but only if an account has been opened. Visit TrumpAccounts.gov to learn more and get started.

Of course, there are other savings options, like 529 college savings plans or other accounts that may offer better tax advantages or flexibility.

The biggest benefit of the Trump account is the free $1,000 from the government.
