2 gas stations compete, drop gas price to 78-79 cents on Houston's South Side

HOUSTON – Drivers lined up Sunday morning and waited 10-20 minutes to take advantage of a gas war on Houston’s South Side.

Gas is always going up and down, but who knew in 2017 Houstonians would see gas selling for well below $1 a gallon?

“Just got through filling up,” one driver, who gave her name as Mae, said after paying $5 to fill up her gas tank.

A Texaco gas station lowered its price to 78 cents after a Chevron station lowered its to 79 cents. The gas war has benefited dozens of drivers in Houston.

Both stations are located on Old Spanish Trail.

Could Houston drivers look forward to more competitions such as this?
