HOUSTON – If disco, roller skates and a little 1980s nostalgia sound like a good time, “Xanadu” may be the musical for you.
The Garden Theatre is bringing the Tony Award-nominated show to Midtown Arts and Theater Center Houston (MATCH ) starting Aug. 14.
Based on the 1980 film starring Olivia Newton-John and Gene Kelly, the stage musical lovingly embraces the movie’s over-the-top charm — with plenty of music, comedy and, yes, roller skating.
The story follows Kira, a Greek muse who comes to Earth to inspire an artist to create the world’s first roller disco. Houston actors Kristen Herink and Miles Estes star as Kira and Sonny, bringing the musical’s mix of romance, comedy and big dreams to the stage.
