HOUSTON – At just 12 years old, Houston golfer Alaina Villarreal is already making a name for herself on the junior golf scene.
A homeschooled student through Acellus Academy, Villarreal has racked up an impressive list of accomplishments, including a Texas State Championship title, a spot as a Drive, Chip & Putt National Finalist and the 2025 Drive Championship title. She was also a finalist at the 2025 Notah Begay III Junior Golf National Championship and competed in the TGR Jr. Invitational.
This year, Villarreal joined Stephen Curry’s UNDERRATED Golf Tour, which works to expand equity, access and opportunity in golf while connecting talented young athletes with college coaches and industry leaders. She is currently the youngest player on the Tour.
For Villarreal, golf started as a way to spend time with her dad, Jason. What began with pink golf balls and a fun introduction to the game quickly grew into a passion — and now, a dream of playing college golf at a Division I school.
Villarreal recently joined Houston Life to talk about her golf journey, her experience on the UNDERRATED Tour and what she hopes to accomplish next.
