Thursday’s Forecast:
A dry cool front moves through late Thursday afternoon. Before it gets here, we’ll again make a run for a record high. Thursday record is 98° set in 2023. I’ve got a high of 96°. On Wednesday we broke the record of 97° with a high of 99°.
Thursday is hot and humid with dewpoints reaching the mid-70s. Dewpoint is an excellent measure of how much moisture is in the air. The higher the number the more humid it feels. Once dewpoints fall to the 50s that is a much more comfortable feel for us in Houston.
You are going to love the way it feels Friday:
As dry air settles in late Thursday, we’ll wake up to a refreshing feel Friday morning. North of I-10 we’ll start the day in the 60s! Along I-10 and south we’ll be in the 70s. But even those of us with mild temperatures will feel good with a low humidity in the morning and throughout the day.
Humidity back this weekend:
The day air does not stay with us. The humidity starts climbing Saturday and it will feel sticky Sunday.
Tracking a Fall front:
Two things I’m watching next week are tropical moisture from the Pacific and a cold front. The Pacific Ocean has two hurricanes, Cat 1 Odalys and Cat 5 Polo. Both of those will send tropical moisture to Arizona, New Mexico and Texas. Some of that moisture could arrive in Houston Wednesday with a cool front moving through at the same time. This may result in widespread heavy rain and lower temperatures. We’ll keep watching this set up to see if it actually occurs.
Tracking the tropics:
All is quiet in the Gulf. There is one area near Cabo Verde being monitored by the National Hurricane Center. It’s off the coast Africa and drifting north. It has a 60% chance of becoming our next named storm. There is no threat to the United States.
So far this hurricane season we’ve had six tropical storms. We have not had a hurricane in the Atlantic basin. The latest first hurricane to form was Gustav and Humberto, which formed on September 11th. This means our 2026 hurricane season set a record for the latest hurricane to form.
Extended forecast:
Our next chance of rain arrives next week. And there is the possibility we get a cold front Thursday. We could get some heavy rain as well with high in the 80s and a few mornings in the 60s!
