Fresh produce, bulk snacks, and one exclusive watermelon are just a few of the reasons to check out the newest addition to the Bay Area shopping scene.
If your grocery routine could use a refresh, there’s a new stop worth exploring. Sprouts Farmers Market has officially opened its newest Houston-area location in Webster, bringing its signature mix of fresh produce, natural foods, pantry staples, and specialty products to Bay Area Boulevard just off Interstate 45.
Known for its farmers market feel, Sprouts has built a loyal following by stocking everything from seasonal fruits and vegetables to gluten-free, dairy-free, plant-based, and organic products. The bright, open layout is designed to encourage browsing, making every shopping trip feel a little like a treasure hunt.
One of the biggest conversation starters at the new store is the Moon & Stars Watermelon. Grown exclusively for Sprouts, you won’t find this sweet, juicy, seedless variety anywhere else. Its deep green rind is speckled with golden markings that resemble tiny moons and stars, making it as beautiful as it is delicious.
Store Manager Adam Berry also shared a few insider tips for choosing the perfect watermelon. Instead of tapping on the fruit, Berry recommends paying attention to what you can actually see.
First, look at the blossom end—the small circular mark opposite the stem. The smaller the blossom-end scar, the sweeter the watermelon is likely to be. Next, check for a creamy yellow field spot, the patch where the watermelon rested on the ground while it ripened. According to Berry, the darker the yellow spot, the longer the watermelon spent ripening in the field, allowing it to become sweeter and more flavorful.
As for the age-old tradition of knocking on a watermelon? Berry laughs, “Do you know what you’re listening for?” His advice: skip the guessing game and trust the visual clues instead.
Another shopper favorite is Sprouts’ expansive bulk department, where rows of bins are filled with roasted nuts, dried fruit, granola, trail mixes, spices, coffee beans, baking essentials, and sweet treats. Whether you’re stocking the pantry or buying just enough for a recipe, purchasing only what you need is good for both your wallet and the environment. Guests are even encouraged to bring reusable containers or purchase reusable bulk bags in-store.
Giving back is another part of Sprouts’ mission. Berry says supporting local nonprofits is something the company is passionate about. In addition to donating edible surplus groceries to the Houston Food Bank and sending produce that can’t be donated for animal feed at local farms, Sprouts is always looking for new ways to support organizations in the community. Berry says nonprofits interested in partnering with Sprouts are encouraged to reach out to their local store to learn more about community partnership opportunities.
The new Sprouts Farmers Market is located at 1001 W. Bay Area Boulevard in Webster, just off Interstate 45, and is open daily from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
