HOUSTON – What started as a moment on the road has grown into a mission that’s changing lives across Texas.
More than two decades ago, singer-songwriter Patrice Pike was touring with her band when she met a young person living in difficult circumstances. The encounter left a lasting impression. Pike and her colleague, Todd Young, felt called to act—so they organized a small benefit concert to help.
That one show raised more support than expected, sparking something much bigger. What began as a single act of kindness grew into a nonprofit effort first known as the Grace Foundation. Over time, it evolved into what is now Step Onward Foundation, an organization dedicated to helping people facing hardship find stability and support.
The foundation works to prevent homelessness and housing insecurity by providing resources including financial assistance, mentorship and counseling. Over the past 20 years, the foundation has distributed over $2 million in direct assistance to Texas care recipients

Music remains at the heart of its mission
Through community concerts across Texas, Step Onward Foundation raises awareness and brings people together around a shared cause. These events help fund the organization’s work while also creating space for connection—turning audiences into advocates and neighbors into support systems.
Now, that mission is taking center stage in Houston.
Pike and her band will perform at the “Sunday Funday” community celebration on April 26 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Dan Electro’s in Houston.
The free event will feature live performances, food and an opportunity to learn more about the organization’s impact. The gathering will also highlight the group’s continued expansion into the Houston area, including a new scholarship initiative supporting students pursuing college or trade school. Because space is limited, reservations are recommended. Reserve your spot here.
