Experience the art of Chinese calligraphy during Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month

HOUSTON – Explore the beauty and elegance of Chinese calligraphy this Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month.

Today on “Houston Life,” Brent Chiang and Elaine Yuan from the Chinese Community Center of Houston stopped by Studio B to teach Tessa Barrera and Mel Camp the art of Chinese calligraphy. Watch their attempt in the video above.

In celebration of AAPI month, the Chinese Community Center partnered with the River Oaks District to showcase performances and exhibits. During the first three Sundays in May, you can immerse yourself in Asian cultures and art for free. Houston area residents are invited to River Oaks District’s Outdoor Park and the indoor space adjacent to Ojo de Agua to enjoy the event.

Houstonians have one more chance to join the festivities this weekend, May 19. This Sunday, discover Chinese Instruments, folk art exhibits, Korean Painting Exhibits, and Japanese Floral Arrangement Demonstrations. There will also be a petting zoo for the little ones to enjoy and a chance for you to learn Chinese calligraphy.
