From sharks to art cars, rootlab is the design company behind many local art projects

HOUSTON – Have you ever heard of rootlab? They’re a local design and fabrication firm with a national reputation as a leader in the production of exhibitions, site amenities, public art, hospitality design, and brand activations – meaning -- they create some pretty cool stuff!

rootlab has played a key role in aspects of design, engineering, fabrication and the installation of many notable local projects, like Houston Museum of Natural Science’s Matter and Motion: Quantum Chemistry to Astrophysics, and even their sharks exhibition, a recording booth for the popular Song Confessional podcast, and Giant Leap Coffee’s Uptown Park location, just to name a few.

They’re currently designing an art car for Great Wolf Lodge to be used this month’s Art Car Parade, and have been tapped to fabricate Meow Wolf’s fifth permanent exhibition -- which is coming later this year.

rootlab’s 45,000-square-foot studio is home to their KUKA robotic arm – only one of a few in Texas – which creates many different designs in many different sizes.

Watch as Lauren Kelly chats with co-founder Logan Beck all about what the company does, and the fun, upcoming projects they’re working on.
