HOUSTON – Water was being released Thursday from both the Addicks and Barker reservoirs in west Harris County after storms dumped several inches of rain on Halloween.
As much as 5 inches of rain was estimated to have fallen in parts of Southeast Texas.
Jeff Lindner, of the Harris County Flood Control District, said in a tweet that water levels in the Buffalo Bayou downstream of the dams are falling and the waterway will be able to easily handle the release.
Lindner said the U.S. Corps of Engineers will re-evaluate the release levels Thursday afternoon.
A small release is also underway at the Lake Conroe dam, Lindner said.
@USACEGALVESTON will begin releases from Addicks/Barker this morning of around 800cfs. Buffalo Bayou downstream of the reservoirs is quickly falling and will be able to easily handle the releases. COE will re-evaluate this afternoon for possible increase in release rates #hounews
