Even without a formal heat advisory or warning in effect, the heat remains dangerous across Southeast Texas. Afternoon temperatures will climb near or above 100 degrees, and the humidity will make it feel even hotter, so take frequent breaks, stay hydrated and avoid spending too much time outside during the peak heating hours.
Today’s temperatures:
A steamy morning again to kick off Thursday with temperatures generally sitting in the upper 70s to low 80s.
Thursday’s Forecast:
Thursday will be sunny and brutally hot, with Houston expected to reach around 100 degrees. Several communities west and south of the city could also hit the century mark, while coastal areas remain slightly cooler. Make sure to limit strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest part of the afternoon and stay hydrated.
High pressure dome is responsible for the extreme heat:
A very stout ridge of high pressure is strengthening across the Central Plains and will be the dominant weather pattern for us for the next five days.
These systems are very stubborn and hard to move so expect very hot days with very humid mornings generally in the low 80s. Storm chances will be very hard to find for most of the next 5 days.
The peak of the heat arrives Thursday through Saturday, with highs around 100 to 101 degrees and very little rain relief. Sunday finally brings a slight change, with temperatures falling into the mid-90s and a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms.
This upcoming weekend the high pressure begins to move west, allowing for a weak front to approach the Gulf Coast. This will be the next best chance to see any measurable rainfall in southeast Texas.
The tropics will stay quiet:
We’ll get long break from our next storm. There is nothing brewing in the tropics for the next seven to ten days in the Atlantic basin.
10 Day Forecast:
The intense heat continues through Saturday, with highs near 100 Thursday and Friday before climbing to around 101 Saturday. A few isolated storms may pop up this weekend, with a 20% chance Saturday and a slightly better 30% chance Sunday. Temperatures ease into the upper 90s next week, but there is no major break from the summer heat, and overnight lows remain near 80 degrees.
