METRO Police Chief Ban Tien has had a long career in law enforcement. From working as a special agent with the US Drug Enforcement Agency to three combat tours in the US Army and Army Reserves, Tien then served 25 years with the Houston Police Department, most recently as Assistant Police Chief. His current assignment, Chief of METRO PD, has him focused on keeping riders safe while on trains and buses. Houston’s northside neighborhoods will soon have better access to the METRO bus route starting June 23, 2025.

As conditions have improved across roadways in Harris County, Houston METRO bus service has announced it is resuming its core routes.

As drivers remain encouraged to stay off the roadways due to icy road conditions, Houston METRO announced it would be suspending its bus services all of Tuesday.

Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner has formally announced an enormous grant given to the city in efforts to progress public transportation as we know it.

Workers like Jesse Torres, along with people going to school or work are forced to wait sometimes past eight hours as 100 trains a day from three different railroad companies block intersections, blow loud horns and even park trains behind homes while hauling goods as they pass through.

HOUSTON – METRO Houston will now offer free rides to anyone who plans to receive their COVID-19 vaccine. Houstonians within the METRO service area can hop on their local bus, METRORail, Park & Ride, METRORapid, and METROLift ride, according to a news release Thursday. Those who plan to use the free service must show proof of their appointment or vaccination card upon boarding. Eligible riders must also fall under categories 1A and 1B of the state vaccination guidelines, which includes frontline workers, residents at long-term care facilities and those at greater risk for complications. The free ride offer will be expanded along with the state’s vaccine expansion to other groups.
