The Justice Department is suing Walmart, alleging the company unlawfully dispensed controlled substances through its pharmacies, helping to fuel the opioid crisis in America, a person familiar with the matter told The Associated Press. The civil complaint being filed Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2020 points to the role Walmarts pharmacies may have played in the crisis by filling opioid prescriptions and by unlawfully distributing controlled substances to the pharmacies during the height of the opioid crisis, the person said. The civil complaint filed points to the role Walmart’s pharmacies may have played in the crisis by filling opioid prescriptions and Walmart's own responsibility for the allegedly illegal distribution of controlled substances to the pharmacies at the height of the opioid crisis. The suit said that only later did Walmart allow pharmacists to do blanket refusals for these suspect practices.

HOUSTON – Quest Diagnostics is offering at-home and drive-thru coronavirus testing at several Houston-area Walmarts, the lab announced in a press release this week. The company said it will have more than 500 Walmart locations across the nation, including 41 locations in Texas. Customers can now purchase a test to diagnose COVID-19 online through QuestDirect. You will have two testing options, at-home or at one of Walmart Neighborhood Market drive-thru pharmacy locations. “Accessible, high-quality COVID-19 diagnostic testing is essential to containing the spread of COVID-19,” said Dr. Jay Wohlgemuth, senior vice president and chief medical officer for Quest Diagnostics.

But analysts are optimistic about TikTok's potential for helping Walmart crack the online shopping nut. Walmart could make TikTok into an extension of its sales machine, helping advertisers, creators and others sell products. TikTok users swiping through and buying as part of their experience on the app might not even know of a Walmart connection. Walmart could also use TikTok to promote key sellers from its online marketplace, which its trying to develop to rival Amazon, said KeyBanc analysts. The lines are blurring between traditional shopping, digital shopping and social media," said UBS analyst Michael Lasser, in a research note.

Beginning in August, Walmart will transform 160 of its parking lots into contact-free drive-in movie theaters as part of a partnership with Tribeca Enterprises. Walmart announced its drive-in tour in a release Wednesday, stating that it would organize 230 screenings in Walmart parking lots across the country. Through our digital means and vast footprint of stores, were hoping to bring some summer fun to families across the country. Walmart has not yet announced screening locations, dates or movie titles but said it will provide updates on a new website built for the drive-in tour. The drive-in tour is slated to run through October.

There is a growing movement to replace the current state flag that has in the canton portion of the flag the design of the Civil War-era Confederate battle flag. The Confederate-themed Mississippi flag drew opposition Tuesday from two big forces in the culturally conservative state: Southern Baptists and Walmart. Walmart said it will stop displaying the Mississippi flag while the state debates whether to change the design. Ronnie Musgrove, a Democrat, appointed a 17-member commission to study flag design in 2000 and to make recommendations to the Legislature. All of Mississippi's public universities stopped flying the state flag years ago because of the Confederate symbol.

SPRING, Texas – Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office deputies are investigating a groping incident at a Walmart in south Montgomery County in which the man accused in the case may be a repeat violator. Ryan Reding, 28, is accused of attempting to grab a 10- or 11-year-old girl by the genitals and also threatening to rape her, according to court documents. In those cases, deputies said Reding groped a girl in the greeting card section of the Walmart on Sawdust in Spring. Less than an hour later, investigators said he then groped another girl in the school supplies section of the Walmart on Woodlands Parkway in The Woodlands. Reding is due in court on Dec. 11 for an arraignment on the Aug. 14 charge.
