U.S. women's gymnastics alternate tests positive for COVID-19 at Tokyo Olympics
One of the alternate, or replacement, gymnasts for the U.S. team has tested positive for the coronavirus, but the main team has moved to separate accommodation and is continuing preparation for the Olympics, USA Gymnastics said on Monday.

Her victory in the all-around at the 1983 national championships as a teenager was the first by a Black woman in the organization's history. โPeople said, youโre the first Black โ Iโm using Black because African American wasnโt a term in my era โ national champion. Her husband said he hopes USA Gymnastics will honor her by inducting her into the organization's Hall of Fame.

The recent abuse scandal engulfing USA Gymnastics put the spotlight on coaches at all levels of the athletics hierarchy, and begged the question: Whoโs coaching your kids?โAccording to the National Childrenโs Alliance, nearly 700,000 kids were abused and neglected in the U.S. in 2015, the latest year that data is available. And some of those cases involved youth coaches and mentors. But reports say that most youth sports leagues donโt require background checks for coaches and volunteers. Several youth coaches in the Houston area have been accused recently of abusing players.
