Meet the face behind the Texas pie shop serving slices of heaven
Tara Steele, owner of Royers Pie Haven in Round Top, Texas, started baking at just eight years old and knows how a slice of pie can bring people together. It builds relationships around pie.โThereโs about 17 different flavors at Royers Pie Haven and Round Top Cafe, and once you have one itโs hard to forget. Taraโs dad, Bud, known as โThe Pie Manโ took over the cafรฉ with just two flavors of pie, buttermilk and apple. Pie Haven and the cafรฉ, we have not had to close down. I can still go to work and have joy, so Iโm very grateful for pies.โRoyers Pie Haven will have a pop-up at Renovate Houston on Friday, November 20, Saturday, November 21 and Tuesday November 24.
What to expect at this yearโs Round Top Antiques Show
If pondering whether to head to the renowned Round Top Antiques Show, which is currently underway, and wondering what you might find there, the answer is pretty simple: Little has changed in the age of COVID-19, other than the obvious. Thereโs a similar gathering in the spring, but this yearโs event was canceled with the pandemicโs onset. Scattered across roughly 65 venues around Round Top, a burg measuring some 610 acres and famously boasting a permanent population of fewer than 100 people, the antiques fair also casts its net over other towns and communities such as Fayetteville, Carmine, Burton, and Warrenton. All venues agreed upon adjustments with an eye toward โputting together a show that feels safe and healthy to everyoneโand thereโs a lot of fresh air at all the venues,โ says Katie Stavinoha, publisher of The Round Top Antiques Show Guide and Round Top Register. The antiques fair doesnโt have a way to police the landscape, leaving everyone to mind the honor system of being a good neighbor, Plant explains.
