A Galveston woman says she is out more than 8,000 dollars after canceling a Princess cruise for her 89-year-old friend whose worsening cancer and COPD triggered a denied travel protection claim tied to a pre existing condition exclusion.

Princess Cruises has canceled a scheduled Nov. 3 voyage departing from Galveston aboard the vessel Regal Princess.

More than 300 passengers who set sail aboard the Ruby Princess late last month became sick after possibly contracting Norovirus, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The Strandcam in Galveston caught a lit-up Carnival cruise ship with the words “We will be back” on Friday night. Carnival is among one of many cruise lines to suspend outbound cruises for 30 days earlier this month. Princess Cruises announced a 60-day suspension in global operations from March 12 to May 10. The Strandcam is located in the Strand National Historic Landmark District which in the late 1800s and early 1900s, “was the heart of Galveston,” Galveston.com says.
