HOUSTON โ Despite some social media posts, the Texas Division of Emergency Management said certain COVID-19 vaccination events in Liberty and Matagorda counties will not be open to almost anyone. The doses initially went to folks who are homebound, as well as those 65 and older, said TDEM spokesman Seth Christensen. People ages 50 to 64 are part of group 1C in Texas, which is open for vaccination. Also on Thursday, a post on the Matagorda County Emergency Operation Centerโs Facebook page discussed a vaccination event at the county fairgrounds scheduled for Thursday and Friday. Christensen said nothing has changed in terms of which population groups have been approved to receive the vaccine.

It was initially reported that the child was found in the familyโs pool but it was later discovered that the child was in the neighborโs pool. On Wednesday morning, the parents, Londell Laviene and Bonnie Tarrant, were charged with interfering with public duties and also with resisting arrest. Both were placed in the Liberty County jail. AdChild Protective Services and their fatality investigation unit is also investigating the incident because the parents had another child drown in 2015 in Liberty County.

LIBERTY COUNTY, Texas โ A man is dead in Liberty County and authorities say his daughter has admitted to shooting him after making initial claims that heโd committed suicide. The Liberty County Sheriffโs Office said it received a 911 call around 2:10 a.m. Friday Ciera Eaton, 35. Authorities said she told them her father, 64-year-old Michael Eaton had just committed suicide at their mobile home on CR 4533 in south Liberty County. After an initial investigation and evidence found at the scene, the sheriffโs office said deputies began to question Ciera Eatonโs suicide story. Ciera Eaton has been charged with murder and is now in the Liberty County Jail.

(CNN) - Olympic gymnast Simone Biles said Monday night she was "still having a hard time processing last weeks news," days after her brother was charged in a New Year's Eve shooting the left three people dead in Ohio. The five-time Olympic medalist and 14-time world champion said on Twitter that her "heart aches for everyone involved, especially for the victims and their families." Tevin Biles-Thomas has been charged with murder, voluntary manslaughter, felonious assault and perjury in a December 31 shooting in Cleveland. Authorities said the shooting started after a group of uninvited guests walked into a home and a fight began. Biles-Thomas was arrested August 29 in Liberty County, Georgia, where he is being held without bond pending extradition to Cuyahoga County, the Liberty County Jail said.

Around 3:55 p.m., the train struck the tractor-trailer near the intersection of Farm-to-Market 1960 and County Road 621 in Dayton, according to authorities. The train didn't derail or lose power but was damaged, an Amtrak spokesperson said. The injuries were minor, according to authorities. Editor's note: Early reports from authorities said 19 people were injured, but later Friday night, officials said 18 people were injured.

Devers ISD heads back to class, will be testing 4-day school week
Devers Independent School District kicked off the 2019-2020 school year Thursday, and while that means getting back to routine, not everything will be the same. In March, the district approved a four-day school week. Students will still receive the state-required 75,000 instructional minutes by adding 35 minutes a day, and students will still get normal holiday breaks. However, Devers students headed back to class Thursday will have to wait for the change to take effect. Even though they have to wait, students are excited about the change.

"I want to take them out of the classroom, go teach them something that's not in school," said Stoesser. On Fridays, I'm going to have to find somewhere for the boys to go," said Devers ISD parent Mandi Simeon.Simeon told ABC13 keeping her boys in Devers ISD is still the best option. "Harris says even larger districts are trying to make the schedule change work.More than an hour away from Dallas, Athens ISD just switched to no classes on Friday too. "We are at a bit of a competitive disadvantage when it comes to salaries," said Athens ISD spokeswoman Toni Clay.That district is hoping the unique schedule will attract teachers.The Athens ISD student population is 3000, 15 times bigger than the Devers ISD student population.

A company was pulling metal and other reusable parts off the trailers and setting the wood and waste aside in a scrap pile at a site on County Road 624 near Wolf Road, according to the Montgomery County Police reporter. The pile had been cleared all the way around, as if it was cleared for a burn, but Liberty County Fire Marshal Bill Hergemueller said it was not legal.
