Wednesdays TV audience did not reach the all-time primary record set in 2016 when 24 million viewers tuned in for the first performance by Donald Trump in a Republican candidates debate on Fox News Channel. The audience matched the preliminary estimate of 15.3 million viewers for a Democratic debate in October 2015 on CNN, now owned by AT&T Inc. That number was later revised to 15.8 million, a record for a Democratic primary field. More than 9 million additional viewers watched Wednesdays debate via live streams on the internet, NBC said.
