World Series champion Astros return to Houston after historic win

HOUSTON – The Astros returned home to Houston on Thursday, a day after winning the first World Series championship in franchise history in Los Angeles.

"I want to be here cause I am a Houstonian and an Astros fan for life," Desmond Banks said. “It makes it all better, man, it puts some cheer some joy in my heart and all other families didn’t make it, this is for them too.”

The players and coaches are landed at Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston around 6:15 p.m.

"We had to celebrate with the Astros, I mean, first time, had to be here in the crowd," Sergio Salinas said.

George Springer was seen holding the World Series trophy when the team got off the plane.

“It just unifies our community and makes our community stronger brings everybody together," John Punzalan said.

Springer was also seen hoisting the trophy to a number of fans that were waiting at the ballpark.

"It’s been 55 years and that’s how long I’ve been waiting," Jimmy Hawkins said. "Last night we were both (he and his wife) so overcome with emotion just because we waited so long for it."
