HOUSTON – University of Houston starting quarterback Conner Weigman was named to the Maxwell Award Pre-season Watch List on Monday, the Maxwell Foundation Club announced.
Weigman, one of the best signal callers in the Big 12 and nation, accounted for 36 total touchdowns in his first season at Houston – 25 passing and 11 rushing – which led the Big 12 and was seventh-most nationally. Weigman’s 3,405 yards of offense were the most since 2021 and 12th most since 1996 – his 700 rushing yards were the second most by a Houston QB since 1996.

Among returning Big 12 quarterbacks, Weigman’s 25 passing touchdowns is second in the league, his 11 rushing touchdowns are tied for the most in the conference, his 2,705 passing yards are third in the Big 12 and his 700 rushing yards leads the league, his 65.2 completion percentage leads returning Big 12 QBs and his 147.1 QB rating ranks second.
The three-time Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week honoree in 2025 was a Davey Obrien QB Class of 2025 watch list selection and was one of four FBS quarterbacks in 2025 with 25+ passing touchdowns and 10+ rushing touchdowns. His 36 total touchdowns were ninth most in a single season in Cougar history.
In his start against Arizona, in 2025, Weigman became the first Houston quarterback with three passing TD, a rushing TD, and a 95+ rushing yard game without an interception since Kevin Kolb in 2003 and led Houston to five game winning drives or come-from-behind victories (Oregon State, Ari-zona, Arizona State, UCF, Baylor).
Weigman is one of 15 Big 12 Conference selections to the Maxwell Award Preseason Watch List and one of 10 returning Big 12 student-athletes (non-transfers) to be selected to the Watch List.
