HOUSTON – Josh Jones walked back onto the football field at George Bush High School on Saturday morning at his youth football camp with a message about what’s possible.
One decade ago, the Richmond native was a high school football standout accepting a scholarship offer from the University of Houston.

Today, the former Texans offensive tackle is a Super Bowl champion and the proud owner of a Super Bowl ring after starting three of 14 games last season for the Seattle Seahawks. Jones, 28, signed a one-year, $4 million contract to stay with the Seahawks in March.
“I’m just so super excited to be back at my alma mater and giving back to my community that helped me get to where I am,” Jones told KPRC 2. “Just giving back to the community, helping them learn skills. Being able to bring a Super Bowl champion back here, it’s just a blessing.”

Jones was joined at his camp by his father, Bobby, former Seahawks and Texans safety Michael Tyson and several high school and Coogs teammates.
“Just to have fun, we out here,” Jones said. “The community brings us together. Football brought us together. We’re going to go out there and have a good time. Whatever you put your mind to, you can do.”
“I started here. If you choose the right path, you do the right things, you work hard, you’ll be able to achieve anything you want. And get your grades, too.”
When Jones got his Super Bowl ring designed by Jason’s of Beverly Hills, it was an incredible feeling.
It marked the culmination of years of hard work for Jones, a 6-foot-7, 339-pound former Arizona Cardinals third-round draft pick who played for the Texans in 2023 after a trade.
“It’s honestly the best feeling in the world,” Jones said. “You work so hard for that for that one opportunity, for that one shot. It’s a lot of greats that don’t have a Super Bowl championship. S,o I’m just blessed to have one. Blessed to be able to do it with the team I was able to do it with.
“Some great guys, great locker room, great staff. So, it was super exciting and super fun. A memory I’ll remember forever. Just an amazing atmosphere, amazing feeling to finally get the ring. It was shining.”
When Jones first signed with the Seahawks a year ago, he had a good feeling about the outlook for the team under coach Mike MacDonald.
Now, they’ve made NFL history together.
“It’s cool, it’s great,“ Jones said. ”He’s a good guy. He has a great mind, great football mind, great leader.
“He was able to bring us together and help learn the culture. So it’s been great. I’m happy to be able to play for him.”
Of course, it helps to have a cerebral, tough quarterback like Sam Darnold running the show.
“He’s a great, awesome guy,” Jones said. “He’s the same guy every day. People don’t see all the work that he puts in, all the work on his body, all the work on his game, on the playbook.
“It’s rare when he messes up anything. So, we knew in the game he was going to be on every single read, every single target. And then from that guy’s story to how he started in the league to where he’s at now, that’s just telling on his character.”
Having won it all, Jones is eager to do it all over again.
This year, we’re running it forward," Jones said. “We can’t dwell on what we did last year. You got to put that to bed. It was a great time. It was a great experience, but now the work has to keep going.”
Jones has recovered from a knee injury and expects to be ready for training camp.
“I head back to Monday to Seattle, get back to work, grind, get ready for camp, super excited for it,” Jones said. “I think I’ll be full-go at the start of camp. We’ll see how we work into it.”
Jones has started 27 of 90 career games played.
“I couldn’t ask for nothing better than to be raised in this city, being a part of the teams I’ve been a part of all the way from Houston to Arizona to Baltimore and Seattle,” Jones said. “It was all a blessing. And it’s my journey. It’s my path. It led me to where last year to be at the pinnacle, to be at the top. So, I’m happy and blessed for that situation and looking forward to the rest of it.”
