Jimbo Fisher's head coaching deal with Aggies 'likely' to be for 10 years

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The college football coaching carousel is still in high gear as schools scramble to fill positions and, in some cases, make decisions.

As KPRC Channel 2 first reported Sunday afternoon, Jimbo Fisher will be the next Head Football Coach for the Texas A&M Aggies after agreeing to a 10-year deal, according to sources with knowledge of the situation.

Fisher will arrive in College Station on Sunday, according to sources.

The deal will be worth a reported $7.5 million per year.

Fisher is still slated to coach Florida State on Saturday.

On Thursday afternoon, the Texas A&M Board of Regents held a special meeting to discuss details of the new contract agreement, though it would later adjourn with no vote.

On hand for the presentation was athletics director Scott Woodward, along with lawyers who presented figures.

The briefing was held to make sure all of the board members were in agreement with the contract before it’s officially inked. Barring any strong objection, which wasn’t likely, the deal is done, according to sources. Final approval would come after Fisher completes his final game with Florida State.

While pressure is mounting in Tallahassee for Fisher to publicly address his future at Florida State, he has elected to offer no comment when asked about Texas A&M.

He and his staff continue preparations for their final game at home against Louisiana-Monroe on Saturday. A win will make the Seminoles bowl eligible.

As KPRC reported, Fisher would not coach FSU in a bowl game.

Texas A&M had hoped to make the hiring public by Thursday night, but now it will likely keep silent through the weekend, once Florida State wraps up its regular season.
