HOUSTON – A teenager claims she and her dog were attacked by an aggressive dog at Congressman Bill Archer Dog Park in west Houston.
The attack happened Feb. 27 in a section of the park that requires all dogs to be leashed.

Lexie Kinder, 17, said the white dog that attacked her mixed-breed dog named Gates was not on a leash. Kinder also said the dog’s owner was on the other side of the park at the time.
“I just started pulling him by his leash but the dog was on top of him (Gates) and he was on his back and my mom jumped in and got him off,” Kinder said.
The teenager happened to record a few seconds of the attack. Kinder was posting a video of the white dog — who she thought was beautiful— to Snapchat seconds before the attack. In the video, Gates can be seen sniffing the dog, which in return snapped at Gates.
“My dog wanted to say, like, hello, you know? It’s a dog park,” Kinder said. “You would expect all the dogs to be friendly and out of nowhere he attacked my dog and I didn’t know what to do.”
Gates suffered a few bites to his neck and the top of his head, according to Kinder. The teen also suffered minor bites on her hand. She said she experienced a lot of bleeding.
Kinder was able to speak with the dog’s owner after the incident but said the woman refused to take responsibility.
“She told me, 'Well, your dog should not have sniffed my dog’s face. My dog doesn’t like other dogs in it’s face,'” Kinder said.
Kinder said the woman disappeared into a wooded area by the time Harris County deputies arrived. Kinder said she’s thankful her and her dog’s injuries weren’t worse.
She said she hopes the pet owner who vanished won’t allow her dog to roam off-leash and out-of-sight again.
