Teen bike rider struck, killed by hit-and-run driver

SANTA FE, Texas – A teenager riding a bike Thursday night was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver in a pickup truck in Santa Fe.

Family members said Douglas William Bleimeyer Jr. was on his way home from his girlfriend's house when he was killed. His mother said she knew something was wrong when two police officers showed up at her door at 1 a.m. Friday.

"They told me, 'Sorry to let you know your son was in a hit-and-run and was killed instantly,'" his mother, Amber Kinsey, said.

Police said the Santa Fe High School student was riding his bicycle with a friend on the southbound shoulder of FM 646 north when a dark-colored pickup truck hit him and then sped off. He was the oldest of four children.

"It sucks not getting to watch him grow up. He used to protect me. He used to aggravate me, but I loved him," Hannah Bleimeyer, the victim's sister, said.

His family is searching for justice for the person who left Bleimeyer in the street to die.

"We need to get whoever did this caught. They should have at least stopped to make sure he was OK," said his grandmother, Terri Cotton.

"I just want whoever did it to be caught. I don't want anyone to go through this pain that I am feeling right now. This is the worst pain I could ever feel," Kinsey said.

Witnesses said the driver of the pickup was driving recklessly just before the accident. They said the truck was speeding and weaving around other vehicles.

Santa Fe police said a person of interest has been identified. Officials said that Santa Fe telecommunication officers, Santa Fe patrol officers and social media helped "identify and locate a vehicle with damage consistent with the scene and descriptions given by witnesses."

The Santa Fe Police Department asks anyone with information about the vehicle to contact the department at 409-925-2000.

A GoFundMe account has been set up for the family.
