THE WOODLANDS, Texas - A person was hit with a hammer Tuesday morning during a robbery at The Woodlands Mall, according to authorities.

The robbery was reported about 11 a.m. at Helzberg Diamonds.

Montgomery County deputies said two men robbed the store and then got away in a small SUV. Someone who tried to intervene during the robbery was hit with a hammer, deputies said.

"They hurt his nose. Right here. He was bleeding a little bit," witness Gustavo Orobio said.

The SUV was found abandoned in neighboring Oak Ridge North near the intersection of Pine Manor Drive and North Freeway Service Road, deputies said. Officials were in the area and looking for two men, deputies said.

The search was called off after the K-9's lost their scent.

The condition of the injured person was not immediately released, but investigators said he was alert and talking at the hospital .

Oak Ridge Elementary School, Oak Ridge High School, Oak Ridge High School 9th Grade Campus and Houser Elementary School were locked down because of the search, officials at the Conroe Independent School District said.

Deputies are reviewing surveillance video from the jewelry store and a couple of pictures a witness took with a smartphone. They hope to get the pair unidentified soon.
