HOUSTON – Houston police said there was no shooting at Memorial City Mall, rather a smash-and-grab incident was reported at a jewelry store inside the mall Saturday evening.
The incident was reported at 7: 45 p.m. after several false reports of a shooting at Memorial City Mall.

Police surrounded Macy's looking for a possible active shooter. Macy's customers had barricaded themselves inside the store's bathroom after hearing possible gunfire.
After investigating the scene, police said there was no evidence of a shooting incident.
Police said no injuries occurred, and the situation was stable and under control.

Police said surveillance video showed a man smashing a case at a jewelry store with a hammer several times. The sounds from the hammer being smashed against the glass may have sounded like gunfire, police said.

The suspect was unsuccessful in breaking the case and fled the scene.
The smash-and-grab suspect is still on the run, police said. Surveillance images will be released to the public for help in identifying the suspect.
