Man in custody after shooting ex-girlfriend to death in Pasadena, police say

PASADENA, Texas – A man who shot his ex-girlfriend to death in Pasadena on Monday was taken into custody after he shot himself during a brief standoff with authorities, police said.

Laura Perales was shot in the 400 block of Yorkshire Avenue around 1 p.m., according to her family.

Perales, 43, was taken to an area hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Authorities were searching for Perales' ex-boyfriend, when they tracked him to a nearby residence. They are not releasing his name at this time.

Authorities were setting up outside the residence when they heard a single gunshot, police said.

The man was found inside the residence with a single, self-inflicted gunshot wound to his head, police said.

He was taken to a nearby hospital in unknown condition, according to police.

EDITOR'S NOTE: Police initially identified the woman's ex-husband as the shooter, but the family later told KPRC2 that the shooter was her ex-boyfriend.
