Man critically injured during shooting in Houston’s southside

Police are also investigating a second shooting believed to be connected to the incident.

A man is in critical condition after being shot in Houston Thursday night, and police are investigating a second shooting believed to be connected to the incident.

According to the Houston Police Department, officers with the Southwest Division responded to a shooting call around 9:30 p.m. Oct. 22 in the 1000 block of West Orem Drive.

When officers arrived, they found a man who had been shot in the upper body. He was taken to an area hospital in critical condition.

Investigators said the suspect was inside a vehicle and fired shots through the victim’s vehicle. The victim’s girlfriend was also inside the car but was not injured.

After the initial shooting, another shooting call was reported about two blocks west of the original location while officers were still at the scene.

Police said the victim’s vehicle and the suspect’s vehicle were shooting at each other, and gunfire struck a nearby residence. The home was occupied at the time, but no injuries were reported.

Police said the suspect fled after the initial shooting and rear-ended another vehicle. The driver of that vehicle was not injured and remained at the scene to speak with investigators.

Investigators have not determined what led to the shootings. Police said the incident appeared to involve road rage, although they are still investigating whether something else prompted the vehicles to follow each other and exchange gunfire.

The suspect remains at large. Police have not released a description of the suspect’s vehicle.

Anyone with information about the shootings is urged to contact the Houston Police Department.
