12-year-old shot inside minivan in Cypress parking lot, deputies say

CYPRESS, Texas – A 12-year-old boy was hospitalized in fair condition after being struck by gunfire while sitting inside his family’s minivan in northwest Harris County, authorities said.

Harris County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded Friday night to the 8700 block of Barker Cypress Road near West Road, where the child was inside the vehicle with a parent and three siblings. The family had been waiting in a business parking lot for another relative.

Investigators said a person in a dark-colored sedan traveling north on Barker Cypress Road fired several shots at a lifted black truck moving through the parking lot. The minivan was positioned between the two vehicles as the sedan traveled alongside the truck.

The child was hit near the shoulder area, according to deputies. No other injuries were reported.
