HOUSTON – Houstonians will have a chance to get a free, full-body skin cancer screening when The Skin Cancer Foundation brings its Destination Healthy Skin RV to Discovery Green on Thursday, Sept. 17.
The 38-foot mobile clinic—equipped with two private exam rooms—will be parked at 1500 McKinney Street, with screenings available from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Organizers say the exams are offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Participants can also pick up educational materials about spotting warning signs and sun safety, along with sample sun-protection products.

A local dermatology team led by Leonard H. Goldberg, MD—vice president of The Skin Cancer Foundation and a board-certified dermatologist with DermSurgery Associates—will conduct the screenings.
The Houston stop is part of the program’s ninth year on the road. The RV travels nationwide in two seasonal legs, operating from May through July and again from September through November, stopping in about 40 cities. The 2026 tour began April 15 in Columbus, Ohio, and is scheduled to end Nov. 20 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Organizers say the program aims to reduce barriers to early detection. Skin cancer is the most common cancer in the United States, and incidence continues to rise.
The Foundation estimates 5,910 new cases of melanoma will be diagnosed in Texas in 2026. Medical experts stress that when skin cancers are found and treated early, they are often curable—one reason dermatologists recommend annual skin exams, along with monthly head-to-toe self-checks for new or changing spots.
