LIBERTY COUNTY, Texas – An escape from HCA Houston Healthcare Kingwood early Saturday has prompted a multi-agency search involving local and state law enforcement.

Officials with the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office said 31-year-old Yorlan Rafael Reyes — a Hispanic male — got away from a correctional officer’s custody at the hospital at about 5:30 a.m. Saturday then fled on foot. Reyes is described as about 5 feet 8 inches tall and around 190 pounds.

The sheriff’s office said Reyes had been taken to the hospital by ambulance after suffering a medical emergency. He had been in Liberty County custody after being transported to the Liberty County Jail on July 17 from Madison County, where authorities said he was picked up on an outstanding Liberty County felony warrant. The sheriff’s office said Reyes was being held on a charge of unlawful disclosure or promotion of intimate visual material.

Deputies said Reyes was last seen in orange Liberty County Jail clothing, including an orange jumpsuit and orange jail-issued shoes.

The Liberty County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division is leading the case, and officials said investigators have reviewed surveillance footage from the hospital and are continuing to track leads. The sheriff’s office said it is coordinating with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Texas Rangers, with Montgomery County units continuing to search nearby areas.

Authorities said they are not releasing additional details about how the escape happened while the investigation remains active, but updates will be provided when possible.

Anyone who believes they have seen Reyes is urged not to approach him. Instead, call 911 or contact Liberty County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch at (936) 336-4500 or Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch at (936) 760-5800.
