HOUSTON – The Houston SPCA is making it easier for people to step in and help during peak kitten season, opening its doors to walk-in fosters after an urgent call for assistance drew a strong community response.

With more than 100 vulnerable kittens ready to leave the nursery, the organization says getting them into foster homes quickly is critical. The Houston SPCA Foster Office is now welcoming would-be fosters without an appointment, allowing qualified volunteers to arrive during business hours and take kittens home the same day, along with necessary supplies.

The foster office is open daily from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is located at 900 Portway Drive, Houston, TX 77024.

Houston SPCA staff provide fosters with food, supplies, medical support and guidance, helping caregivers support kittens until they’re old enough and healthy enough for adoption.

“Every kitten that enters a foster home has a greater chance to grow, thrive, and eventually find a loving forever family,” said Dr. Brandt Payne, chief veterinarian at the Houston SPCA, adding that the expanded walk-in option is designed to remove barriers for those ready to help now.

Officials encourage anyone interested in fostering to register ahead of time online to speed up the process, though walk-ins are still welcome.
