UTMB police searching for man accused of assaulting security officer in Galveston

Police say the suspect attacked a uniformed security officer before fleeing the scene.

Galveston police are searching for a man accused of assaulting a University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) security officer early Sunday morning.

According to the University of Texas Medical Branch Police Department, the incident happened just before 6 a.m. Sunday on Market Street in Galveston.

Police say a UTMB employee was approached by a man driving a 2010 Honda Accord. A uniformed security officer intervened during the encounter.

Investigators say the suspect got out of the vehicle and assaulted the security officer before driving away from the scene.

Authorities have identified the suspect as Mark Anthony Johnson Jr. Police say a warrant has been issued for his arrest on a third-degree felony charge.
