Where to Cool Down at Houston Stadium

For the Germany vs. Curacao match on Sunday, Houston Stadium gates open 90 minutes before kickoff, the first match of the day.

The Houston Stadium has climate-controlled concourses, restaurants, and bars. Outside at the FIFA Fan Festival, there are misting zones, water stations, and shaded areas.

If you do start to feel unwell, there will be a medical tent. As of Thursday evening, FIFA officials reported 16 people were treated for heat-related illnesses.

Weekend Forecast:

Friday and Saturday, there is 20% chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms.

The bigger concern will remain the heat. Temperatures climb to the mid-90s, but the humidity will make it feel like 105 by 3 p.m. each day! Stay hydrated, take frequent breaks to prevent heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

Heat Index Classification Effects

Heat Index Classification (National Weather Service)

Make sure to stay weather aware on Sunday. Rain and thunderstorms ramp up to 80% as tropical moisture returns to Houston from the Gulf.

Watch for street flooding and ponding as the storms move through. High precipitation chances should last all the way into Tuesday as tropical moisture sweeps into the area and a front approach, which should squeeze out precipitation from the atmosphere.

ON TRAFFIC: Planning your route around Houston for the FIFA World Cup

Kick off for Sunday is at 12 p.m. The heat index prior to the event is expected to be around 94 F, climbing into the 100s heading into the game. Still under that extreme caution classification.

If you have any after-game activities, make sure to remain in shaded or cooled areas.
