CONROE, Texas â Authorities have identified the worker who died after a trench collapsed at a construction site in Conroe over the weekend.
According to the Conroe Police Department, the collapse happened around 11:50 a.m. Saturday in the 3600 block of South Loop 336 East as a crew with Engitex Construction was installing underground piping.

Investigators said the trench, which had approximately 10-foot dirt walls, gave way and trapped two workers inside. Co-workers immediately began rescue efforts before emergency crews arrived.
One of the workers, identified as Jose Arevalo, 44, of Houston, died at the scene. His body was taken to the Montgomery County Medical Examinerâs Office for an autopsy.
The second worker, 34, of Houston, was pulled from the trench and transported to a hospital. Authorities said he has since been released.
Multiple agencies responded to the scene, including the Conroe Fire Department, The Woodlands Fire Department, North Montgomery County Fire ESD No. 1, Caney Creek Fire Department and the Montgomery County Hospital District.
Detectives and crime scene investigators conducted an initial investigation and said there is no evidence of foul play. Officials described the incident as a tragic accident.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is also investigating the collapse.
