Police identified the victim as Kate Autry, 72.

Officers with the Conroe Police Department responded to reports of a major crash involving a single pickup truck and a pedestrian.

Authorities say that the driver of the pickup truck and several bystanders began performing life-saving measures immediately after the crash. Both the driver and Autry were residents of the Grand Central Park community.

The Conroe Fire Department and EMS arrived shortly afterward and took over medical care, and Autry was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives are evaluating whether glare from the low western sun may have been a contributing factor in the crash.

At this time, police say there is no indication that excessive speed or reckless disregard for traffic control devices played a role.
