Nearly 50 people were arrested for driving while intoxicated in Montgomery County during the New Year’s holiday, according to the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office.

From Dec. 31 through Jan. 3, law enforcement agencies across the county made 49 DWI arrests during a holiday enforcement effort focused on impaired driving — one of the most dangerous travel periods of the year.

Four of those arrests involved drivers who already had outstanding DWI warrants. Officials say 11 cases are felony-level charges, while the remaining 38 are misdemeanors.

District Attorney Mike Holley said the goal of the crackdown is simple: stop impaired drivers before someone gets hurt.

“These efforts are not about numbers — they are about prevention, accountability, and protecting families on our roadways,” Holley said.

Chief Prosecutor Taylor Vanegas added that each arrest represents a serious case with real consequences.

“Every DWI arrest is a case that must be handled carefully and responsibly,” Vanegas said.

The New Year’s Eve DWI Task Force Initiative was a collaborative effort involving the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, the Texas Department of Public Safety, the Conroe Police Department, Montgomery County Constable Precincts 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5, as well as the Magnolia Police Department, Montgomery Police Department, Splendora Police Department, Oak Ridge North Police Department, and Roman Forest Police Departments.
