RICHMOND, Texas – Fort Bend County Judge KP George was back in court Monday for a hearing tied to his felony money laundering case, which is set to go to trial in early February.
The hearing was cut short due to an illness involving one of George’s attorneys, but one issue was addressed — a social media post from last week.
In a Facebook post, George’s re-election campaign questioned the hiring of special prosecutor Brian Wice and the taxpayer dollars being spent by the District Attorney’s Office to assist in the upcoming criminal trials.
However, the DA’s Office made it clear it is relying on asset forfeiture funds — money generated from prosecuted criminal cases in which property and funds were confiscated. As a result of what was revealed in court Monday, the post was pulled, according to George’s legal team.
“Well, I haven’t read all the posts. I just found out about that today — that was a campaign post. Obviously, we’re fine with Mr. Wice,” said George’s attorney, Jared Woodfill, who added, “Mr. Wice is a very good lawyer.”
The Fort Bend County District Attorney’s Office spoke with 2 Investigates afterward regarding the brief court appearance and its outcome.
“Mr. George is going to pull down an inflammatory post on his campaign Facebook page, and then we will continue to address misrepresentations by the defense and their motions later this week,” said Wesley Wittig, a member of the DA’s Office leadership team.
It should be noted Wice is a former legal analyst for KPRC 2.
George will return to the courthouse Tuesday morning for a hearing in a criminal misdemeanor case involving a social media hoax tied to George’s former chief of staff, Taral Patel. Patel, who was convicted in May for his actions in that case, is expected to be listed as a witness in George’s trial.
That case is set to begin jury selection on Jan. 6, 2026.
