HOUSTON, Texas – A Houston firefighter fell through the floor while battling a large apartment fire in northwest Houston Monday night.
Crews were called to the complex in the 200 block of Plaza Verde Drive around 9 p.m. and arrived to heavy smoke.
Firefighters quickly upgraded the response to a 2-alarm fire, and then to a 3-alarm after one of the firefighters fell through a floor while clearing a unit.
The firefighter was evaluated on scene and was able to return to work.
Officials say strong winds fueled the flames and made the fire difficult to control.
At least 18 units were destroyed.
