HOUSTON – Police are investigating after a 2-year-old girl died in West Houston on Wednesday.

MORE CRIME-RELATED NEWS COVERAGE

Lt. Larry Crowson with HPD said it all started in the 3400 block of Ocee Street, a little after 6 p.m., when officers received a call about two or three men walking around the apartment complex with guns.

While officers were responding to the scene, another call came in about a mother who had brought her 2-year-old daughter to a hospital, saying she found her daughter injured in the parking lot and believes she was hit by a car.

Detectives learned that an adult family member was in the parking lot with the child when they realized they had forgotten an item inside their apartment. They went back to their apartment and left the child alone.

After returning to the apartment, they found the child lying on the ground with injuries consistent with a crash.

The 2-year-old died at the hospital.

Crowson said it was discovered that the men running around the complex with guns were the 2-year-old’s relatives and were trying to find out who had hit the child.

The men were detained. Crowson did not say whether they could face any charges or not.
