Local law enforcement agencies, community advocates, and families of the missing are coming together this week to tackle a crisis affecting hundreds of families in Southeast Texas.
On Thursday, May 1, a press conference will be held at the Harris County Cemetery in Crosby to spotlight the growing number of unidentified people buried in local indigent cemeteries — and share critical resources with families searching for missing loved ones.

As of April 25, 2025, there are 480 unidentified individuals buried in two indigent cemeteries serving Harris County, including the Crosby Cemetery.
Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez will speak at Thursday’s event, which organizers hope will raise awareness and encourage community involvement.
Then on Saturday, May 3, 2025, Missing in Southeast Texas Day will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Children’s Assessment Center, 2500 Bolsover Street, Houston.
The event is free and open to anyone who wants to show support or has a missing loved one. Local, state, and national agencies dedicated to finding missing persons will be available to assist families in filing reports, providing DNA samples, and learning about ongoing efforts.
