HPD Vehicular Crimes Division officials reported that a woman was driving a white Chevrolet Suburban at a high rate of speed southbound on the entrance ramp from the West Loop North to Interstate Highway 10. She sideswiped a gray GMC Sierra pickup truck, causing her to lose control of her SUV.

The Suburban struck the concrete barrier on the shoulder, leading to the vehicle tipping onto its side and sliding a considerable distance. The woman was partially ejected from the Suburban.

Houston Fire Department paramedics responded and pronounced the driver of the Suburban deceased. Her identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

The driver of the GMC stopped and remained at the scene. That driver was not injured and was determined to not be impaired. They were questioned and released.

The investigation is ongoing.
