Teen, toddler hospitalized after ingesting carbon monoxide in N. Houston home

A teenager and a toddler were hospitalized after they were found to have been poisoned by carbon monoxide in their home.

First responders with Houston Fire Department were alerted to the situation at 3:10 p.m. Tuesday afternoon at a home in the 11400 block of Walk Drive.

Upon arrival, the firefighters did not detect any carbon monoxide in the house, but the kids complained of feeling nauseous. The teen and toddler were taken to the hospital, and blood tests confirmed that they had increased levels of carbon monoxide in their systems.

Investigators are now working to determine where the toxic chemicals came from inside the home.

Carbon monoxide poisoning is a dangerous possibility during cold weather events like the winter storms in Houston. Houstonians are advised to keep generators and running vehicles out of enclosed spaces (like garages), and make sure that their smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are functioning properly.
