A barricade situation involving a stolen vehicle, firearms, and explosives unfolded in northeast Houston late Wednesday night, ending without injuries after the suspect surrendered.

Houston Police Department’s Northeast Crime Suppression Team said they initially spotted the stolen vehicle near Tidwell and Jensen around 11 p.m. and attempted a traffic stop.

The driver fled, however, resulting in a short pursuit that ended with a pit maneuver.

Investigators said the man driving the vehicle refused to get out, and prevented a woman passenger from leaving. Another woman passenger managed to get out and was taken into custody.

She remained in contact with the suspect via cell phone during the standoff.

As tensions escalated, the suspect claimed he had multiple firearms and explosives in the vehicle, prompting HPD SWAT to respond.

Officers eventually convinced the suspect to throw several weapons out of the car. The remaining passenger was safely removed, and the suspect surrendered to authorities without incident.

No injuries were reported during the standoff. Investigators recovered several firearms and a small quantity of explosives from the scene.
