Texas Pride Disposal lawsuit

Today, starting at 4 p.m. on KPRC 2, you’ll hear about a veteran who can’t get his trash picked up AND the new yellow tag program to prove you’ve paid your bill in order to get your trash picked up.

The disposal company has a history of trash pickup delays and pileups in Houston-area neighborhoods.

KPRC 2 has been following this ongoing problem since the beginning of 2023 in several different neighborhoods where residents expressed their frustrations.

In January 2023, residents of a Cypress-area subdivision had to contract with a second garbage collector when trash didn’t get picked up for more than three weeks.

Residents said the HOA hired a new contractor — separate from Texas Pride Disposal — to collect garbage spilling onto their streets. Despite hiring another garbage collector to pick up the trash, they still had to pay Texas Pride Disposal because of their contract.

In Katy, residents told KPRC 2 that they were fed up with trash piling up on the streets of their subdivision. They said Texas Pride Disposal had not picked up their trash in the last two-and-a-half weeks. During that time, Texas Pride blamed delays on the freeze and a higher trash volume from the holidays.

When KPRC 2 reached out to the owner and operations manager for answers, our calls went to voicemail and were never returned.

KPRC 2 viewers have shared enough complaints about Texas Pride Disposal to fill a garbage can. In addition to contacting KPRC 2, many went as far as contacting the Better Business Bureau to investigate.

“The Better Business Bureau has received about 100 complaints on Texas Pride Disposal and the business has not answered a majority of those complaints either so they have an “F” rating with us,” Leah Napoliello, Vice President of Investigations with the Better Business Bureau, said on Jan 12, 2023.

Some frustrated homeowners want their Home Owner’s Associations to cut ties with the company and its inconsistent service.

In a Cypressdale neighborhood, KPRC 2 also spoke with neighbors who experienced issues with garbage pickup by Texas Pride Disposals.

Their complaints echoed so many others -- trash takeaway days were not consistent -- some days were skipped altogether. Piles of garbage also attracted creatures like rats and raccoons.

A meeting with Cypressdale HOA and residents was held in January 2023 with a representative from the Texas Pride Disposal who addressed questions. They told residents issues started in 2020 when the company lost several drivers and turnover became higher than usual.

The company rep also told residents growth and new contracts have slowed to a near standstill while they focus on getting staff back to normal.

KPRC 2 will continue to follow the complaints and work to get you solutions.
